At the 2015 Dentistry Show and British Dental Association Conference, Dentists’ Provident is demonstrating their focus on your health and wellbeing, by providing hands-on sessions to help with your preventive care programmes.

Back to back appointments, long periods of time in surgery, repetitive movement in restricted spaces could all end up taking its toll on your health. We know you understand the importance of looking after your patients’ health, but how much time do you take to look after your own health?

At the NEC on 17-18 April and the Manchester Central Convention Centre on 7-9 May you can find the team from Dentists’ Provident on stands G01 and B01 respectively. But they won’t be alone; they will be accompanied by qualified and experienced practitioners in Reflexology and Pilates, who can discuss your current health concerns and recommend some techniques for your preventive care programme.

Reflexology is a non-intrusive health therapy that’s been found to provide health benefits including a reduction in pain and improved blood flow, as well as mental health benefits.

Pilates on the other hand, is a mixture of yoga, martial arts and other exercises and focuses on stretching and strengthening your whole body to improve balance, muscle-strength, flexibility and posture. Kevin Esplin, specialist Prosthodontist and Dentists’ Provident member, said “I think Pilates can help enormously in coping with the challenges that dentistry poses for the spine and I cannot speak more highly of it.”

Last year alone Dentists’ Provident paid over 1,300 claims, with a fifth of those for musculoskeletal issues. Having a preventive care programme for your health and wellbeing is a really positive step for a long, happy and pain-free practising career.
